There are two things I have learnt over my
years using PowerPoint:
If you want to stand out and get
noticed, you need a better story, presentation,
animation set and graphics.
PowerPoint is brilliant at explaining
complex relationships. It is not so good at
interactivity.
Crystal Excelsius is a program I've been
using for a while now and I still keep learning what it can
do. Basically, it takes data and formulae in an Excel
spreadsheet and brings it to life. But not only does
Excelsius add interactivity, it add graphic class I've not
often seen in other programs.
Time to get excited!
That is not my photo, by the way. But he is
as happy as I'd expect!
Some facts:
Excelsius is a program that runs
externally to PowerPoint
It exports results to: Macromedia Flash
(for the web or within PowerPoint), PowerPoint, PDF, and
Outlook
It is so well integrated into Microsoft
Office you need very little knowledge to run it
The outputs are graphically wonderful
The result is an interactive chart that is hard to
believe. And it is not even fair calling them "charts"
because Excelsius does much more.
An example:
This example took me two seconds. Well, it
is one of the many examples available as a template. Change
the data and you are away. For projects you design from
scratch it is as easy as:
Design your spreadsheet
Import your spreadsheet into Excelsius
Add custom interactivity in Excelsius
Export to the application you need
Remember: These charts work in a
PowerPoint slideshow!
